Kintsugi Example
Learn the ancient Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with genuine urushi lacquer in this six-part series.
What is Kintsugi?
Kintsugi ( 金継ぎ, "golden joinery") is a centuries-old Japanese art form that repairs broken pottery with lacquer mixed with powdered precious metals such as gold or silver. Rather than disguising the damage, kintsugi highlights the breaks, treating them as part of the object's history and making it more beautiful than before.
This philosophy embraces flaws and imperfection, teaching us that breakage and repair are part of an object's story—not something to hide. In this course, we use authentic urushi lacquer and silver powder to create lasting, beautiful repairs.
